Team NUH Awards nominees helping to raise thousands for charity

There’s still time to nominate your hospital heroes for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust’s (NUH) annual staff awards, known as the Team NUH Awards.

Health Care Assistant Liz Redworth has been nominated for Fundraiser of the Year. She was praised by her colleague Jack Kelliher, who said: “Liz has spent over 20 years helping NUH with her fund raising and charity work.

“Whether it’s cake sales for Father’s day, Mother’s day, Christmas, Easter and more, Liz goes above and beyond to raise funds for charity and for the ward allowing us to purchase new equipment which has gone a long way to further enhancing patient care.

“Liz also creates and makes clothes, such as special mitts for dementia patients to play with and use”

Liz Redworth said: “I’m delighted to be nominated for the Fundraiser of the Year Award, it’s an honour and a privilege to be recognised, and a pleasant surprise to know my colleagues think so highly of me!

“I organise a range of fundraisers ranging from raffles, tombola, cake sales and I enjoy making knitted toys for Christmas and decorations for the wards. All the money raised goes straight to purchasing new equipment for the department”

The Fundraiser of the Year award recognises staff who have dedicated their time and energy to fundraising activities that benefit Nottingham Hospitals Charity in order to better support the care at NUH.

Team NUH are committed to supporting the Nottingham Hospitals Charity wherever they can, however some individuals and teams go above and beyond to raise vital funds to further enhance the patient experience at NUH.

Another nomination for the Fundraiser of the Year Award is for the Radiotherapy team, recognising the numerous events they have done over the past 12 months to raise funds for the department. Their nominator said: “Last year the team did the three Yorkshire Peaks walk, Tough Mudder, as well as various other events including open gardens and other sporting challenges. It has been really good for team building and integrating new staff into the department.”

The Team NUH awards are supported and funded by Nottingham Hospitals Charity.

Barbara Cathcart, Chief Executive of Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: “We are delighted to support the Team NUH Awards in celebration of the amazing staff here at Nottingham’s hospitals. Not only do our staff care for the people of Nottingham every day, but many go the extra mile by also choosing to fundraise to help their patients.

Last year, staff from Nottingham’s hospitals collectively raised over £122,000 for Nottingham Hospitals Charity – money that will then be used to benefit their patients by funding things like improvements to ward areas and state-of-the-art medical equipment.

“We’d like to thank all the remarkable staff here at our hospitals, who, not only provide excellent patient care, but also go above and beyond by choosing to fundraise in their own time. If you know of any of these amazing individuals or team who have gone above and beyond in their charitable endeavours, then please do nominate them for the Fundraiser of the Year Award.”

Nominations are open until 23 August, so if you or a loved one has received great care or had a positive experience with a member of staff you can nominate them for the recognition they deserve.
