EPOC
The Enhanced Perioperative Care (EPOC) unit cares for patients who have undergone major surgery, mainly for cancer, from all major surgical specialties except cardiac. They also look after patients who have sleep apnoea and need some extra monitoring following their surgery. Patients usually stay on the unit for 24-48 hours, receiving high-level care at a ratio of one nurse to two patients, before going to their specialty wards. We have two EPOC units – one at QMC and one at City Hospital.
Visiting times on the unit are between 11am and 8pm, with a maximum of two visitors per patient at a time.
