Emily, Attraction and Marketing Apprentice
Emily Durbin, Attraction and Marketing Apprentice
Emily joined the trust in October 2023 and and undertook a Level 3 Marketing Apprenticeship.
“An apprenticeship will allow you to experience a typical 9-5 working lifestyle, which gets you ready for the working world. I had been to university prior to my apprenticeship and whilst I gained a degree, I wasn’t equipped to adapt to different working environments. Since starting my apprenticeship, I have been able to experience working in NHS, whilst learning new skills and working with different people in different departments!
“I think for me the benefit is finding apprenticeship that was niche and specific to the career route I wanted to follow. With the marketing apprenticeship, I have found a job I enjoy, that is purposeful to the Trust, and I just find the whole experience extremely rewarding. My advice when deciding an apprenticeship is to follow your curiosity, skillset and what you believe will fulfil you in the future. The right apprenticeship sets you on the right career path
“Don’t think taking the apprenticeship option is any less than going to university. There is never a dull day, you're always doing something different. You get to interact with lots of people you normally wouldn’t if you were confined to classroom learning. I have met so many diverse people during my apprenticeship from different career backgrounds which has really enhanced my learning.”
“I started my apprenticeship as a mature student, and it has helped me build new skills I wouldn’t have been able to ordinarily build in any other situation. My advice to mature students is to not be afraid of doing an apprenticeship after university!”
