Neurology consultants
Dr Chris AllenI have been a consultant neurologist since 2022 and have a special interest in multiple sclerosis, with a weekly clinic at the QMC. I also run general clinics at the QMC and King’s Mill Hospital. I completed my medical training at UCL, and specialist neurology training in the East Midlands. During this specialist training I completed my PhD focussed on translational diagnostic neuroimaging in multiple sclerosis and mild traumatic brain injury. I am an honorary assistant professor at the University of Nottingham, where I am involved in supervising research and teaching, and am involved in several clinical trials in Multiple Sclerosis. |
Dr Philip AmbroseI’m a consultant neurologist who specialises in myasthenia gravis and diseases of the peripheral nerves e.g. inflammation of these nerves. Studied the autoimmune disease myasthenia gravis for 3 years at Oxford in the Autoimmune Neurology group and looking into the disease history and immune system problems. We studied in detail >200 patients from onset of their disease and have worked with patients in understanding their priorities at patient days for myasthenia gravis. I have also presented at patient information days for Myaware and the Encephalitis Society. I have set up services in Nottingham to deliver treatments at home with immunoglobulins and introduced Efgartigimod on an early access scheme for myasthenia gravis in Nottingham. I also lead on some new treatments that are going through clinical trials in myasthenia gravis at the moment, as well as collaborating with Oxford and Manchester universities on other clinical studies in myasthenia gravis. I am a member of the British Peripheral Nerve Society and regularly attend their conferences to keep up to date. |
Prof Nikos EvangelouProfessor of Neurology and Consultant Neurologist with an interest in multiple sclerosis (MS) and management of headaches. I run clinics in MS, headache and general neurology. I have also a research group at the University of Nottingham and the Nottingham University Hospitals conducting diagnostic and treatment trials in MS and traumatic brain injury. |
Dr Jonathan EvansDr Jonathan Evans has been a Consultant Neurologist at the QMC since 2015, and head of Service for Neurology since May 2019. Originally from South Wales, Dr Evans did his medical training at the University of Cambridge and his specialist Neurology training rotating between London and Neurology Centres in East Anglia. His specialist interest is in Movement Disorders, in particular Parkinson’s disease. His PhD, also undertaken in Cambridge, investigated the natural history of Parkinson’s disease and markers of disease progression. He is involved in several clinical trials in Parkinson’s Disease, and also runs a weekly Botulinum Toxin injection clinic, as well as general Neurology clinics at the QMC and at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation (Trust Kings Mill Hospital), Mansfield. |
Dr Rasha Fahim (Clinical Lead)I am a consultant neurologist with a special interest in neuroinflammation and botulinum toxin injections. I did my training in the East Midlands, mainly at Nottingham University Hospitals. I completed my PhD degree at the University of Nottingham studying Cortical imaging in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) using ultra-high field MRI at 7 Tesla. I run weekly general neurology clinics as well as MS/neuroinflammation and botulinum toxin clinics at the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC). I also run weekly general neurology clinics at King’s Mill Hospital. |

Dr Bruno Gran I have been a consultant neurologist at NUH since 2005. My subspecialty interests are in multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuroinflammation. I run general neurology and MS clinics at NUH and am one of the hyperacute neurology unit consultants. From 2015 to 2020, I was a member of the MS Advisory Group of the Association of British Neurologists. I am Honorary Professor of Neurology at the University of Nottingham School of Medicine. My research is on how MS develops and how it could be prevented in the future. |
Dr Srishti GuptaDr Srishti Gupta is a Consultant Neurologist with subspecialty interest in Movement disorders and Botulinum toxin injections. She did her postgraduate Neurology training in East Midlands deanery mainly at QMC, Nottingham. She does General Neurology clinics at QMC & King’s Mill Hospital and Movement disorders clinics at QMC. She also runs Regional DBS assessment clinic at NUH as a Regional DBS centre for Advanced Parkinson’s disease, dystonia and tremor covering East Midlands and West Midlands. |
Dr Akram A. HosseiniAt NUH, I am a consultant neurologist and have been awarded an MRC/NIHR Clinical Academic Research Partnership with the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre, the University of Nottingham. My clinical and research interests are cognitive and neurodegenerative disorders. Apart from general neurology clinics, I run Working Age Dementia, Cognitive Disorders and Autoimmune Encephalitis clinics at QMC. I am currently the clinical lead for neurodegenerative disorders of the NIHR East Midlands. |

Dr Sue Yin LimDr Sue Yin Lim BMedSci (First Class Honours), BMBS, MRCP (Neurology) is a Consultant Neurologist with a specialist interest in Epilepsy. She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate medical training in Nottingham. She also undertook a 3-month Epilepsy and EEG Course at Cleveland Clinic, U.S.A. in 2016. She is a member of the Association of British Neurologists (ABN) and the British Chapter of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE). |
Dr Esmaeil NikfekrI am a neurology consultant with a speciality interest in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and neuro-inflammatory CNS conditions since 2011. I also have a PhD in Parkinson's disease from Nottingham University. I run general neurology clinics at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) and Mansfield’s King’s Mill Hospital (KMH) as well as MS clinics at the QMC. |
Dr Michael O'DonoghueI am interested in all aspects of epilepsy with a particular focus on complex epilepsy associated with intellectual and other neurological disabilities. I am a Honorary assistant Professor in Neurology at Nottingham University. My goal is to provide the best possible holistic care for patients with challenging epilepsy through the use of a full range of established and novel treatments with the help of a multi-disciplinary team. |
Dr Athanasios PapathanasiouDr Papathanasiou Neurology training took place in Aeginition Hospital, University of Athens, Greece and in Queen’s Hospital, Romford, UK. He has a PhD in Multiple Sclerosis (cognition and MRI in MS) from University of Patras, Medical School, Greece. He has been a Neurology Consultant since 2013. His subspecialty interest includes Multiple Sclerosis, neuroinflammatory conditions (particularly Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder and Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein-associated demyelination) and Myasthenia Gravis. |
Dr Gillian SareGill Sare is a Consultant Neurologist with a special interest in Movement Disorders. She undertook her undergraduate training at The University of Leeds and has a PhD in stroke medicine from the University of Nottingham. From the neurology side she leads the Deep Brain Stimulation Service and the Huntington's Service as well as being involved in movement disorders and general neurology. |

Dr Peter SellarsI am a Consultant Neurologist with a special interest in dementia. Apart from general clinics I also am the hyperacute inreach consultant, seeing patients in the emergency department and acute admission wards. I completed my medical training in Leicester, and specialist neurology training in the East Midlands. |
Dr Abu Bakar Muhammad Nizamul Hoque Sikder, MRCP(UK), MDDr Sikder is a Consultant Neurologist with a special interest in Epilepsy and Stroke. He worked as an Epilepsy Fellow in St Georges Hospital, London and a Stroke Fellow in Salford Royal Hospital, Manchester. He runs the General Neurology and Epilepsy clinic at Queen’s Medical Centre. He is a member of the Association of the Association of British Neurologists (ABN), the British Chapter of ILAE and Society of Neurologists of Bangladesh (SNB). |
Dr Sumeet Singhal Sumeet Singhal is based at Queen’s Medical Centre. He has interests in Epilepsy, Dissociative Seizures, Narcolepsy and Neuro-oncology. He is part of the Enhanced Vetting service for Neurology referrals. |
Dr Radu TanasescuMy subspecialty interests are multiple sclerosis (MS), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody associated disease (MOGAD) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD), autoimmune encephalitis, neuroinflammatory and neuroimmunological conditions. My general neurology clinics are at Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) and King’s Mill Hospital, and my MS and Neuroinflammation clinics at QMC. I am Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology and a MRC-NIHR CARP recipient at the University of Nottingham, and the Neurology Specialty NIHR CRN Lead for the East Midlands of England. I am Member of the Scientific Committee of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), and Co-Chairing the Coordinating Panel for Neuroscience/Translational Neurology of the EAN. |
