New for 2024, our People First Recognition Awards
This award applauds the efforts of staff who excel in their commitment to equality and inclusion, and who champion inclusivity.
For the past 15 months, Deb and Pav have spearheaded inclusivity and engagement initiatives within maternity to amplify the voices of women from the global majority. Their passion has driven efforts to improve experiences for women and staff from BME groups. As role models from global majority backgrounds, they provide insight and challenge to drive the inclusivity work within NUH maternity.
Hayley has been with the team for less than a year but has already made significant contributions by leading a project to enhance inclusion for service users. She identified that the service lacked information on how religion and culture affect patients with cancer. Taking initiative, she researched and collaborated with NUH religious leaders to improve support for patients practicing their faith during treatment. Her efforts have directly improved the service, showcasing her commitment to both her role and the experience of NUH cancer patients.
As a Legacy Mentor in Critical Care for the past year, Helen has passionately embraced her role to enhance the experience of neurodivergent staff. She aims to create an inclusive culture within her specialty and the wider Trust. As Chair of the new Neuro Diversity Network, she has successfully engaged staff by surveying their needs and identifying practical support measures. Helen’s commitment to improving retention and patient safety through inclusivity is evident in her work, making her a true inspiration.
Maxine significantly impacts her team's daily experience. She promotes inclusivity across various protected characteristics, implementing "Access to Work" solutions for staff with disabilities and supporting neurodiverse team members. She discreetly encourages awareness and provides training to enhance understanding within the team. Her work has been recognised at the Trustwide Inclusion Conference, showcasing her commitment to everyday inclusivity.
Vignesh is deeply committed to fostering a culture of acceptance and celebrating individuality in the workplace. His authentic approach inspires others to embrace their true selves, creating an environment where everyone feels valued. As the lead for inclusion in his Division, he recognised the absence of an inclusion infrastructure and took action. He has a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination, embodies fairness, equity, and inclusivity, and his leadership as the new Chair of the BAME Network amplifies BAME staff voices.
