24 Hours in A&E Series 1 Episode 11 – Life’s Too Short

The next brand-new episode of 24 Hours in A&E, filmed at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust’s (NUH) Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC), airs on Monday 31 July, 9pm, on Channel 4.
The RTS award-winning documentary returns from its new home at QMC, Nottingham - one of the busiest A&E departments in the country. A place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every single day.
The episode highlights how important it is to live for the moment and follows the stories of those preparing for and dealing with loss.
Senior Registrar Dr Anju Menon (photographed) treats 77-year-old Keith who is rushed into QMC after a cardiac arrest while playing an online card game. His wife, Rosemary, gave CPR at home and paramedics bring him into resus. While doctors work to try to stabilise him, we hear from Rosemary about their life together and how lucky they have been to have found each other.
In the Urgent Treatment Unit there is 79-year-old John who has come in after being run over by a car at a local market. He looks back on his life, sometimes with regret, and talks of Nottingham Forest in the late 40s and his life with wife Stephanie. Although he wishes he could have done some things differently, he thinks overall, he did win at life.
Joanna is in resus having fallen from her horse Molly. As Joanna undergoes scans and X-rays, her mum Karen talks of Joanna’s love of riding and how close she was to her dad, John. We learn how tragically their family, like thousands around the country, was affected after John contracted Covid-19 earlier in the year.
During September and October 2021, the Trust welcomed cameras into the Emergency Department at Queen’s Medical Centre for the first series to be filmed outside of London.
A total of 24 programmes were recorded and the first seven episodes were broadcast earlier this year. You can catch up on previous episodes at channel4.com .
