24 Hours in A&E Series 2 Episode 1

Channel 4’s award winning documentary series, 24 hours in A&E returns to our TV screens tonight, Thursday 13 February at 9pm.

The first episode of this brand-new series follows three extraordinary men who are all determined on living life to the fullest and their doctors who refuse to let their patients’ worlds fall apart.

The series returns from Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) Nottingham - one of the busiest A&E departments in the country. A place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every single day.

37-year-old Latvia-born Ronalds is rushed into QMC after slicing through his ankle with an angle grinder whilst doing some DIY at home. Dr Usman, Major Trauma Fellow, is concerned that this is a time critical injury which may result in amputation. While doctors work to assess the damage, Ronalds reflects on his 16 years living in the UK and why Nottinghamshire is so obsessed with ducks.

Father of two, Jeremy, is moved from minor injuries to the resuscitation ward after going straight over the handlebars of his mountain bike. Doctors are concerned there are injuries to his neck and spine. However, Consultant Trauma Surgeon JJ, and his team make a worrying discovery when looking at the results of Jeremy’s scans. JJ opens up on his experience of receiving life changing news and how this was the final driver that motivated him into a career in medicine.

21-year-old Owen comes into QMC with a dislocated shoulder after getting into a mosh pit at a local festival. While Emergency Nurse Practitioner Naomi tends to Owen’s injury, Owen reflects on his various diagnoses and the obstacles he has had to overcome. Owen is determined to not let his health issues hold him back in life.

During September and October 2021, NUH welcomed cameras into the Emergency Department (ED) at QMC for the first series to be filmed outside of London. Cameras returned to QMC in 2023 to bring you another series of this inspiring documentary.

24 Hours in A&E, which is made by The Garden, part of ITV Studios, has become one of the most popular documentary series on Channel 4, having aired more than 300 episodes.
