Former managing director of family business returns to nursing to help with pandemic | Latest news

A managing director who left nursing to run her family business has spoken about why she decided to return to the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.

Charlene Muronz, who qualified as a nurse in 2013 from the University of Nottingham, was contacted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council last year asking her if she would return to nursing.

This was part of a national call-out from the Government who asked people who had left the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register or who had retired, to come back to the NHS to help deal with the pandemic.

Charlene, now works in the Health Care for Older People area at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUH), and said: “ As soon as I got the email asking me to return to nursing, I knew straightaway that I this was something I wanted to do. It was my opportunity to help out and give back.

“With the pandemic unfolding I felt my small intervention would make a difference somehow.

“Although I was planning to stay temporarily, I found myself falling in love with nursing again and I have decided to stay permanently.”

Charlene,  who worked in a nursing home until 2018 and later ventured into her family business, said the aspects of nursing that she loves is the caring side of it and being able to change someone’s life for the better.

“As a nurse I have the opportunity of meeting people from different backgrounds with different health issues," she said.

“I enjoy learning and getting to know them and their families. I love inspiring, challenging and providing the best quality of care to my patients as if they were my own family.

“The team I have been working with are very supportive and encouraging. I have never felt alone there’s always someone to help me if I need it.”
