Hospital Radio winners of two national awards | Latest news

The ceremony, organised by the Hospital Broadcasting Association, was held in Windsor and formed part of a wider annual conference weekend, celebrating the work of volunteers of hospital radio stations across the country.

Nottingham Hospital’s Radio won Silver awards in these categories:

• Female Presenter of the year – Julie Caston
• Male Presenter of the year – Rajiv Hasan

NHR also made it into the top 5 in two other categories at the awards ceremony, including the Special Event and Multiple Presenter category. 

Programme Controller at NHR Harrison Tatem-Wyatt said:

“I’m thrilled for Julie and Rajiv on their very well deserved awards, and to Mickey, Sam and all who took part in the Special Event programme for the top five finishes. This is a great end to a year at NHR that was all about starting over and rejuvenating the station and its members. Hopefully we can bring even more trophies home next year!” 

Judges of the awards range from individuals working in the radio industry and the National Health Service.  Entries closed in November and the shortlist was announced on New Years Day this year.

On judging the awards, Charlie Partridge, Managing Editor, BBC “I love a hidden gem, a lovely bit of radio and I was lucky enough to hear quite a few in judging this year’s HBA Awards. The scale, ambition and sheer talent on show, and the across the board consistency of all the entries made it a joy to be involved. Great radio doesn’t have to be expensive and hi tech: it is that moment of connection, the right comment at the right time, the right sound. I found plenty to prove that”

The Hospital Broadcasting Association is a national charity that supports and promotes hospital broadcasting in the UK. The annual conference and National Hospital Radio Awards aim to promote hospital broadcasting and support the work volunteers do across the country.
