Our CQC National Adult Inpatient Survey results are published

Each year the Care Quality Commission (CQC) runs a survey through Picker, which looks at the experience of inpatients at our hospitals. The results of the survey have been released today. 1,250 of our patients who were discharged in July 2018 were contacted, with 565 of our patients providing a response (47%).

NUH was rated 'about the same' as other NHS acute hospitals in England across all of the measured metrics, which include ED, waiting lists and planned admissions, and bed waits.

Each area that the CQC asked our inpatients about is given a score out of 10 (the higher the score, the better). Our scores ranged from 8.8 (for waiting lists and planned admissions) to 3.6 (for overall views of care and services) - similar to those of other organisations. NUH was rated 38th out of 77 Picker Trusts for the overall positive score.

Following publication of the CQC survey today, further analysis will be completed to identify how NUH compares to all other organisation in the 2018 survey, based on results published by the CQC.

Our priorities for improvement based on our survey feedback are:

  • Our discharge process;
  • Noise at night; and,
  • Communication with patients from the clinical and corporate teams, including information on how to complain.

All of our patient responses can be found on the CQC website here.
