Live performance and participatory arts
Bringing Music to Unexpected Places

Our live music performances pop up in restaurants, waiting rooms, wards, and public spaces, brightening the day for visitors, staff, and patients. Research shows that music in healthcare settings can reduce stress, spark feelings of hope and joy, and provide comfort and distraction, all of which can help accelerate healing.
“If this was just music, it would still be enough to lift spirits when joy is in short supply. However, to the patients and families, these are little unexpected moments of wonder and excitement at a time that's often otherwise filled with fear and pain.”

Creative Well-being for Staff

Artist in Residence Programme

In 2024, Arts at NUH piloted its first artist residency over a six-month period. Visual artist and musician Paul Lillie collaborated closely with us to enhance the well-being of patients and staff through a variety of creative arts activities.
Following the success of this project, we’re excited to develop more artist residencies across different art forms throughout 2025.
“It allowed me to perform achievable tasks, and it didn’t matter if things went wrong. It gave me control and the opportunity to make decisions for myself. It reassured me that I can still do what matters.” NUH Patient
Art Cart

Supported by our dedicated volunteers, the Arts Cart brings creativity directly to the wards, offering patients a wide range of engaging, boredom-busting activities to enjoy during their stay at NUH. From colouring to other hands-on activities, the Arts Cart provides a welcome distraction and an opportunity for patients to express themselves creatively.
These moments of creativity promote relaxation and a sense of normality in what can often be a stressful environment.
“It was very reassuring to see my daughter enjoying being creative.” Parent
