Gastrointestinal Investigations

Paediatric gastrointestinal investigations are carried out at the Bastow Laboratory. 

We provide a diagnostic service investigating gastrointestinal health problems such as gastroesophageal reflux, constipation, faecal incontinence, upper abdominal pain, and digestion problems. 

Tests provided include:

  • 24hr pH impedance investigations - food diary log required for this study
  • Hydrogen breath tests including: bacterial overgrowth, lactose and fructose tolerance tests
  • 13-C urea breath tests to investigate the presence of Helicobacter pylori in the stomach
  • Pelvic ultrasound scans to measure rectal crescents

We are located between wards D33 and D34 within the Children's Burns & Plastics Unit. Please ring the buzzer upon arrival to the Burns & Plastics Unit, and a member of staff will direct you to the Bastow Lab.
