Take a Break

We are committed to ensuring that all staff take their breaks.

If you work more than six hours in one stretch, you are entitled to a 20-minute rest break under the Working Time Regulations.

Rest breaks can include tea breaks, lunch breaks, or other short breaks during the day. It is not just because of the regulations that breaks are important; it's because they are good for you too.

Taking a break gives you a chance to take a breather, replenish your energy levels by eating or having a drink, physically resting, or taking a mental break.

Taking your breaks during the working day has many benefits

Re-evaluate goals

A break can give you the opportunity to re-evaluate your goals for the day and allow you to take stock.

Refocus

Breaks are great for allowing yourself to rest briefly and then refocus on the work at hand.

Injury reduction

Taking breaks can help reduce injury during physical jobs that include bending, twisting and carrying.

Creativity boost

Taking a break can improve creativity and problem solving. How many times have you been stuck on a task? A quick break could make problem solving easier.

Prevent strains

Taking time away from your computer and out of your chair can reduce aches and pains. If working at a computer, breaks can reduce headaches cause by eye strain.

Reduce stress

Taking breaks can reduce stress, by taking some time out, unwinding a bit and having a bit of you time.
