Update: Critical Incident stood down

Update Wednesday 11 September 2024: Critical Incident stood down

The Critical Incident related to IT issues in our Pathology service has now been stood down.  The affected systems are returning to normal with and we are now operating in business as usual.

Patients can now attend the phlebotomy (blood testing) service at City Hospital and the QMC, including the Treatment Centre, for regular tests.  GP colleagues are being advised to return to business as usual in testing from 2pm this afternoon (Wednesday 11 September)

We would like to thank all of our colleagues, patients and our partner agencies for your support and dedication in responding to this incident and protecting patient care.

Tuesday 10 September 2024

We have declared a Critical Incident as a result of an IT failure in our Pathology service which has affected our ability to process blood test results in a timely fashion, and the impact this is having on hospital services and primary care.

As a result of the incident, we are asking patients not to attend the phlebotomy (blood testing) service at City Hospital or the QMC, including the Treatment Centre for regular tests until further notice. People should continue to attend other scheduled appointments unless informed otherwise.

There will continue to be delays in the service while we work on a solution.  This impacts blood tests from within the Trust and from GP colleagues.  Business continuity plans are in place and we are working to prioritise the most urgent blood tests, including cancer and pre-op services.

Patients and our community can help us by continuing to use NHS services wisely, including by using NHS111 and only attending A&E where necessary as we continue to experience increased pressures as a result of the incident.

Thank you to all of our colleagues and partners who are working above and beyond to maintain services and keep patients safe.
